| An aircraft landed today at Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka in the middle of a snow storm after a 13 hour flight from Munich via Novosibirsk. On board the Gazprom-chartered aircraft as it touched down in the capital city of the Russin Kamchatka region, were some of the best biathletes in the world. |

| The Ukrainian team was, as were many others, in Ramsau for training on the Dachstein Glacier. However, they had the worst luck. When they arrived at the beginning of October, there was only dirty ice on the glacier and normal skiing was virtually impossible. Then a snowstorm hit the plateau and the glacier. For two days, hardly any training was possible. When the glacier reopened with perfect conditions, the team was about ready to leave. |

| Wolfgang Pichler is known as a hard working coach who expects the same effort and attitude among his athletes. The German has been the Coach Swedish Biathlon Coach since 1995 and just renewed his contract for another four years. Biathlonworld.com met him while his team was doing an extreme training competition (see our earlier report). He told us about his team’s training program and explained why the team is not the IKEA of Biathlon. |

| The Swedish and British Biathlon teams along with guest Andi Birnbacher embarked on an unusual triathlon competition last Friday. Just like every year, Swedish Coach Wolfgang Pichler planned an extreme training competition for his athletes. Not only were the athletics challenging, but also the start time was unusually early. At six o’clock in the morning, the athletes were at the shooting range in Ruhpolding’s Chiemgau Arena for zeroing. |

| Simon and Martin Fourcade |
| Simon Fourcade, 15th in the Overall World Cup just completed his fifth World Cup season, while brother Martin Fourcade ended his rookie season ranked 25th. Martin is about half a head taller, and several kilos heavier than his brother. Simon is quick to smile, while Martin is a bit more reserved. Although as different as night and day in some ways, these two brothers hold one thing in common: both are tenacious competitors and part of the youth movement in French Biathlon. |
