Vita Semerenko Wins Women’s Pursuit; Sister Rests
Vita Semerenko of the Ukraine took the 10K Pursuit Championship this afternoon in Otepää after her sister decided not to start. She toured the 10K in 31:47.2, picking up a single penalty in the first prone stage.

Men’s Pursuit Title to Volkov
Four Medals for Russian Biathlete
Alexey Volkov won the Men’s 12.5K Pursuit Championship today in Otepää, making him the most successful male competitor at the IBU Open European Championships U26. Volkov had just one prone penalty on his way to a 25:19.6 victory.

Valj Semerenko Wins Women’s Sprint; Twin Si...
Norway’s Eckhoff Takes Junior Title
Valj Semerenko of the Ukraine won the Women’s 7.5K Sprint at the IBU Open European Championships U26 with a clean shooting performance. Her time of 21:58.5 was 29 seconds faster than Diana Rasimoviciute of Lithuania, who also finished second in Tuesday's 15K Individual.

Böhm Wins Men’s Sprint Title in Otepää
Perfect Conditions Equals Close Finish
Daniel Böhm of Germany claimed the second individual Open European U26 title in his career as he won the Men’s 10K Sprint today in 26:29. Last year in Ufa, Russia, Böhm won the Pursuit competition and was on the second place Relay team.

Germany Sweeps Both Relays in Otepää
Men Dominate Field; Women Win in Last Loop
Germany won both Relay competitions at the IBU Open European Championships today in Otepää, Estonia. The German men’s team of Simon Schempp, Erik Lesser, Daniel Böhm, and Christoph Knie literally ran away from the other 16 teams in the Men’s 4 X 7.5K Relay, winning in 1:20:20.5. Later in the afternoon, the women’s team of Stefanie Hildebrand, Julianne Döll, Franziska Hildebrand, and Kathrin Hitzer took the Women’s 4 X 6K Relay in 1:15:15.4.

France Takes Junior Mixed Relay in Otepää
Russia Close in Second Place
France won the Junior Mixed Relay competition today at the Open European Championships U26 in 1:20:36.8. The penalty-free shooting of the French team of Leslie Mercier, Sophie Boilley, Yann Guigonnet and Remy Borgeot was the difference between their victory and the second place Russian squad.

Simon Schempp, From Talented Junior to Olympi...
Successful Debut in Olympic Relay
Last February, Simon Schempp of Germany was in Canmore, Alberta, Canada competing in the IBU Youth and Junior World Championships, where he won two medals. This year, he was back in the land of the maple leaf, but at an even more important competition, the Olympic Winter Games.

Almost Perfect Hitzer Wins 15K despite Broken...
Monika Hojnisz Wins Junior Championship
Germany’s Kathrin Hitzer of Germany won the Women’s 15K Individual title this afternoon at the IBU Open European U26 Championships despite breaking a ski on the final loop. After replacing the ski, Hitzer, with 19-of-20 on the shooting range crossed the finish line in 50:14.

Knie Takes 20K in Snowy Otepää
Turgenev Wins Junior Title
Christoph Knie of Germany captured the Men’s 20K Individual today at IBU Open European Championships U26. With heavy snowfall during the competition, he covered the five loops in 59:48, while picking up only one penalty.
