| The 2010 Olympic season is now etched in the history books. Although there were many surprises during the season and at the Olympic Winter Games, one fact stands out. | When Sylvie Becaert started biathlon, simply making an Olympic team seemed like an impossible dream. “I started biathlon in 1998 as part of a strong team that included Corinne Niogret and Ann Briand. I thought that I would never never make the Olympic Games. Then in 2001, I was told that maybe I could make the team for Salt Lake. I said that if I made the Olympic Games, I would finish then, but I am now finally leaving. I never expected to win any Olympic medals.” |

| Halvard Hanevold decided to retire from biathlon long before his final season ever started. With that decision, he put together a long term plan so that he might escape the fate of those who decide to leave the sport late in the game “I just did not want to fade out, with a little note in the papers in the middle of April.” |
