This is not a big problem for me. It is much more important right now to become completely healthy again so that I can train again for the real highlight of the next season, the Olympic Winter Games. Not many competitors this weekend will think of the Summer World Champs as the highlight of their season. For years, there have been Rollerski competitions, like the German championships at the end of the summer in different countries. During the last few years, there have been participants from different countries in these competitions, so this is a growing trend. I think this is why the Summer Biathlon World Champs on Rollerskis are now held. Different nations have different training schedule and these, rightfully so, are focused on the winter. That is why some of the best athletes will not compete this weekend. Real Summer Biathlon consists of cross-country running and shooting. These competitions were held on Tuesday and Wednesday. In Germany, the Summer Biathletes do not belong to the DSV, the German Ski Federation that conducts winter biathlon, but to the target shooting federation, Deutscher Schützenbund. They, so far, were a completely different team. These championships will not have the problem of different rollerskis. The rollerskis are distributed before the competition in order to make the conditions pretty much the same for everyone. However, the women will most likely get the same rollerskis as the ones used in Östersund, Sweden last month. I heard that with these rollerskis that you have to be lucky, because allegedly there are significant differences in the speed. Of course, many fans think it is great that the break from Biathlon on TV is shorter because of the Summer Biathlon World Championships. The German Channel ARD will show the competitions on the weekend live and there will be a live stream on the IBU website. This way everyone can see how nice it is in Oberhof during the summer. Of course, you have to be lucky with the weather. However if that is good, it is really nice in Oberhof. I wish all fans a lot of fun watching the competitions; the atmosphere will be great no matter what, and in the end there will be some new World Champions. Best regards Andrea |
